An exciting initiative for a new Abbeyfield at Rosemarkie on the Black Isle took a major step forward in April when outline proposals for re-development were considered by the Board of Abbeyfield Scotland Ltd.
The plan is to replace the existing house with 14 one and two bedroom new terraced cottages and flats in a village green arrangement linked to communal facilities by a covered walkway. The design and layout, by Archial Architects of Inverness, make the most of the location which has a wonderful outlook across the Moray Firth.
The design brief was influenced by needs expressed through a survey of 500 Black Isle households – research which produced detailed information not available from other sources. The result will be new housing which offers independent living with access to the support, security and companionship that is central to the Abbeyfield tradition.
The Local Development Group has worked tirelessly for several years to get the project to this stage. Rosemarkie is the first new model of housing and support planned for Abbeyfield Scotland Ltd since it was formed just over two years ago by the merger of more than 30 independent societies.
