I joined Abbeyfield in 1995. I have enjoyed a variety of roles as I’ve worked my way up over the past few years.
I initially came across the job advert to work in Dock Park House by accident. I was intrigued and decided just to enquire. I started off as an assistant making the “tea” a couple of evenings a week while my son was small. I quickly found that working within an Abbeyfield house was extremely rewarding and worthwhile. I now work as an Area Supervisor and manage both houses in Dumfries and Galloway – Lockerbie and Dumfries.
To me Abbeyfield is unique. It is a “warm” home from home, with company if you want it or your own personal space if you need it. The staff are all very committed caring individuals who always go above and beyond for every single resident and their families. What is the best part of Abbeyfield for me? The laughter! It is such a privilege to watch a whole new world open up for many people who have suffered loneliness and felt their “good life” had almost come to a close.
Choosing Abbeyfield is not to choose a “Home” it is choosing to live life to the full…the Abbeyfield way!
