Caring at Christmas
An Invitation to Join Us over the Festive Season
Abbeyfield Scotland launches Caring at Christmas campaign
Invitations go out to older people who are alone this Christmas
With 3 weeks until Christmas, Abbeyfield Scotland, which provides housing and support for older people, is offering older people in the community, who find themselves alone this Christmas, a meal and company over the festive period.
Christmas is a busy, social time of year but for some older people without family around them it can be a time when they feel isolated and lonely. Abbeyfield Scotland is a charity which runs 25 independent living homes for older people across Scotland. Today we are inviting people living close to our houses who are alone this Christmas to join the residents and house staff for a meal and the possibility of an overnight stay over the festive period.
Commenting on the launch today, Niall Patterson, Abbeyfield Scotland CEO, said: “We know from talking to older people that being alone at Christmas can be particularly distressing and we are reaching out today to offer them a warm and welcoming Christmas with an opportunity to make new friends at an Abbeyfield house.
“We are encouraging people worried about being alone over Christmas to get in touch with us now, so we can register them for an Abbeyfield Scotland Caring at Christmas event near them. No-one should have to face the isolation and loneliness of being alone at Christmas and this is our way of tackling the issue.”
The Caring at Christmas campaign is for older people worried about spending Christmas alone. Anyone interested should call us on 0131 225 7801.
