New residents encouraged to come and try unique Deeside Assisted Living house
Residents of Abbeyfield House in Torphins are encouraging older people, who are still independent but can no longer stay at home, to come and see what the house has to offer. Abbeyfield Scotland provides supported accommodation in a small and family friendly environment for those who are not yet ready for a care or nursing home.
The modern, purpose built house in Torphins offers assisted living for up to nine residents and currently has vacant rooms as well as a flat with its own kitchen facilities. Each room is well-appointed and spacious with an en-suite bathroom and patio doors leading out to an attractive garden. Beloved pets can also be accommodated.
Mercedes Davis, 91, who has lived at Abbeyfield for three years says: “I was reluctant to leave my own home at first and I certainly didn’t want to go into an “Old People’s Home” – Abbeyfield is nothing like that, you have your own lovely room but we all enjoy coffee, activities and home cooked meals together. We just need some new faces to join us!”
Mercedes’ daughter, Liz Marchant, added: “Abbeyfield is a really special place and it has been the perfect move for my Mum. Loneliness is such a debilitating thing but Abbeyfield offers a warm, friendly and secure environment that gives me peace of mind. I’m sure there must be others out there have elderly parents in a similar situation and I’d urge them to find out more about what Abbeyfield has to offer. While it is not a care home, you can organise your own carers to go in as required should any resident need additional support.”
If you want to find out more about life at Abbeyfield please contact Aberdeenshire Area Supervisor, Carole Foreman on 07880 037518 to arrange an informal chat, to join the residents for lunch or to arrange a trial stay at the house.
