I was born and brought up in Corrie Common in the Lockerbie area. After attending the local primary school, I went on to attend Lockerbie Academy. After leaving school I worked within various jobs locally before taking up a job working in a children’s home in the nearby town of Annan. I enjoyed very much working with children and youngsters.
Soon Cupid came calling! I then married the handsome Hugh. We moved to Parkgate and I worked at Barony College, an agricultural college, which again was working with youngsters. I felt I was almost a ‘mother’ figure to them. Soon after we were blessed with a lovely son who we named Graeme. We enjoyed many happy years as a family of three.
As time moved on and the years rolled by Hugh started to suffer from ill health. So in early spring of 2016 Hugh and I moved into Parklea House, Lockerbie, as a couple. Sadly, Hugh passed away not long after but his short period here gave him great comfort to know how well I would be looked after.
I am carving myself a new and meaningful life at Abbeyfield and have made lots of new friends. We often sit together in the evenings and watch a film on the big screen. The staff provide us with ice cream cones and it’s just like being at the cinema! Abbeyfield is a real home from home.
My family purchased a very good looking bench in memory of Hugh, which sits in the garden at the house. I sit there in the summer evenings with my new friends, comforted by the thought that Hugh had a plan all along.
